Two people were arrested in connection with smuggling 5.5 kg of marijuana from Thailand into India, as first reported by Ratopati.

The arrest follows a similar case reported in June, when officials busted a Thailand-India cannabis smuggling network, according to Deccan Chronicle. Together, the two incidents point to a recurring smuggling route between the two countries that has drawn law enforcement attention this year.

The case also comes amid broader anti-cannabis enforcement activity in India. The Times of India reported that 2,800 cannabis plants were destroyed in an enforcement action in late July, while NDTV reported in June that marijuana plants were discovered inside a Kerala temple, prompting a probe.
