Brazil's agricultural research agency has received approval to conduct cannabis research, according to Reuters. The move comes as the country deepens its regulatory framework following Anvisa's August 2026 resolutions on cultivation standards and earlier January 2026 authorization for medical cannabis cultivation.

The research greenlight suggests Brazil is moving toward evidence-based cultivation and breeding practices to support its expanding medical market. The country has already accumulated 873,000 registered medical cannabis patients as of May 2026, and new investor interest in the sector continues to grow.
